Herman Miller Aeron vs Steelcase Leap – Which Is Better for Remote Work?

My home office is now my permanent office, and my back is starting to hate me. I'm stuck choosing between the Herman Miller Aeron and the Steelcase Leap. I'm on calls for about 6 hours a day, and then doing focused work for another 2-3. I'm 6'0" and about 200 lbs. Lumbar support is key, but I also want something that won't get too hot during the summer. Which one is the better long-term investment for someone in my situation?

The Leap's back support is generally considered better for extended periods. The Aeron's mesh can be cooler, but some find the plastic frame around the seat uncomfortable after several hours. At your height and weight, both should fit, so it comes down to personal preference on the feel of the back support and seat. Try to test both if possible. If you can't, consider the Leap for back support and then research the Aeron frame discomfort issue to see if that sounds like something that would bother you.

Leap's lumbar support is more adjustable, making it better if you need very specific lower back support. Aeron is better if you prefer a more breathable chair and a slightly firmer seat. If you tend to get warm while working, Aeron is the clear winner. Try to test both if possible.

Leap is the better choice if you prioritize adjustability and lumbar support. The Aeron is iconic, but its fixed lumbar can be hit or miss depending on your spine's curvature. The Leap's LiveBack technology actively adapts to your movements, which is a game-changer for long work sessions. Plus, the Leap's seat depth adjustment is crucial for taller users, ensuring proper thigh support. Aeron's mesh seat isn't for everyone, especially in colder climates. However, if you prefer a cooler seating experience and a more minimalist design, Aeron wins.
