MacBook Air vs Windows – which is worth it?

I'm torn between getting a MacBook Air and a Windows laptop for college. I need something reliable for taking notes, writing papers, and doing some light coding. Battery life and portability are important. I'm also on a budget, so value for money is a big factor. Which offers the best overall experience and bang for the buck?

For basic productivity and a long lifespan, the MacBook Air holds its value and is known for its user-friendly experience, especially if you're already in the Apple ecosystem. However, comparable Windows laptops often offer similar performance at a lower price point. Consider a Dell XPS 13 or a Lenovo ThinkPad if you're budget-conscious; they're solid alternatives. If you want to dip your toes into the Mac world and your budget is flexible, get a refurbished older gen Macbook Air. That way you can determine if it's for you.

For your needs, I'd lean towards a Windows laptop, especially if budget is a major concern. You can often find Windows laptops with similar specs to a MacBook Air at a lower price point. Plus, the Windows ecosystem offers a wider variety of software and hardware options. While macOS is slick, Windows provides more flexibility. Battery life is comparable these days across both platforms.
