MacBook Air vs gaming laptop?

I need something portable for school, but I also want to play games like Cyberpunk and Elden Ring. Is it even possible to get decent gaming performance from a laptop that isn't huge? Battery life matters too, since I'll be in class most of the day. Budget is around $1500.

Gaming laptops will give you significantly better performance for gaming at the cost of battery life and portability. The M2 MacBook Air can handle some light gaming, but it's not ideal for demanding titles. If gaming is a priority, you'll need to sacrifice battery and size for a gaming laptop within your budget. Consider looking at models with newer RTX 3050 or 4050 cards, which balance performance and price. Also, check the wattage of the GPU, higher wattage generally means better performance.

Gaming laptops prioritize performance and cooling, resulting in shorter battery life and increased weight. The MacBook Air excels in portability and battery but isn't designed for demanding games. With a $1500 budget, you'll likely need to compromise. Look for a gaming laptop with a Ryzen 7 or Intel i7 CPU and an RTX 3060 or RTX 4050 GPU. Check reviews for battery life under light use. Consider cloud gaming services as an alternative for playing demanding games on the MacBook Air, if your internet connection is stable.
Avatarhonestbuyer: For $500, a used gaming laptop might give you the best balance of performance and portability, but battery life will still be a concern. Prioritize screen quality too, since you'll likely be using it for work as well as gaming.
