Best laptop for college students under $800?

I need a new laptop for college, but I'm strapped for cash. My budget is $800, and it needs to last at least four years. I'm majoring in English, so I won't be running any crazy CAD software or anything. Battery life is a huge plus since I'll be running between classes all day. Weight is also a concern; lugging around a heavy laptop is a pain. I also want something reliable; I can't afford to have it break down mid-semester. What are your recommendations?

The Acer Aspire 5 is a solid choice in that price range. It usually comes with a Ryzen 5 or Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a fast SSD, which is plenty for your needs. Battery life should get you through most of a school day. Alternatively, check out recent deals on the Lenovo IdeaPad series, as some models occasionally drop below $800 with similar specs.

Chromebooks are a solid option if your primary uses are web browsing, writing, and streaming. They generally have great battery life and are very lightweight. The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 often goes on sale for under $800 and offers a premium experience. Alternatively, look at refurbished ThinkPads. You can often find powerful and durable models well within your budget. Just ensure they have a relatively new battery.
