Toyota vs Honda?

I'm stuck deciding between a Toyota Camry and a Honda Accord. My biggest concern is long-term reliability and maintenance costs. I plan to keep the car for at least 10 years, and I drive about 15,000 miles per year, mostly highway. Which one is likely to be cheaper to own in the long run? Gas mileage is a factor, but reliability trumps everything. Oh, and let's assume both are new and similarly equipped.

Historically, both Toyota and Honda have excellent reputations for reliability. However, Toyotas generally edge out Hondas in long-term dependability, according to most reliability surveys. The Camry might cost slightly less to maintain over a decade. Check repair histories from sources like Consumer Reports and J.D. Power for more data. Also, consider factors like the specific engine (some are more reliable than others) and your driving habits.

The Accord Hybrid edges out the Camry Hybrid in driving enjoyment, offering slightly sharper handling and a more responsive feel. However, the Camry Hybrid often boasts a slightly better MPG in real-world conditions and Toyota's reputation for long-term reliability is hard to ignore. If you prioritize the driving experience, go with the Accord; otherwise, the Camry might save you more money in the long run.
