Dell XPS vs HP Spectre? Compare?

I'm looking for a premium laptop, primarily for software development and some light gaming. Battery life is crucial as I'm often working remotely. I also value a good screen for coding long hours. Considering both the Dell XPS 15 and HP Spectre x360 16, but I'm torn. Which one would better suit my needs, especially considering Linux compatibility?

For software development and Linux, the XPS 15 generally has better driver support. While the Spectre is a great all-around machine, its hybrid nature and focus on pen input don't really benefit a developer workflow. If you are gaming, compare the specific GPU configurations offered in each model, as that will be the biggest performance differentiator.

The Spectre x360's OLED screen is noticeably better for media consumption if you prioritize vibrant colors. The Dell XPS line generally has better driver support if you plan to run Linux or other alternative operating systems. If you need a 2-in-1 form factor, the Spectre wins by default. Performance between similarly configured models is nearly identical for everyday tasks. Battery life is close, but the XPS typically edges out the Spectre, particularly on non-OLED models. Keyboard preference is subjective; try them in a store if possible.
