Is Dell XPS 13 worth it compared to cheaper laptops under $1000?

I need a new laptop mainly for work: spreadsheets, documents, presentations. Battery life is crucial since I travel a lot. I'm looking at the Dell XPS 13, but its price tag is making me hesitate. Are there any cheaper alternatives that offer similar performance and battery life without sacrificing too much on build quality? My max budget is $1000; is the XPS *that* much better to justify the extra cost?

At the $1000 price point, the ASUS Zenbook series provides a solid alternative. You often get similar processors (Intel i5 or Ryzen 5), ample RAM (8-16GB), and fast SSD storage. Battery life is usually very competitive, often exceeding 8 hours of real-world use. The XPS 13 does have a slightly better screen and a more premium feel, but the Zenbook gets you most of the way there for less. Also consider the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim series; they often have models that balance performance, battery, and price effectively.
