Which is better Cash App or Venmo?

My roommate and I are splitting bills, usually around $500-$600 monthly for rent and utilities. I'm wondering which app, Cash App or Venmo, is the better choice for these recurring payments, considering fees, ease of use, and overall security. I've heard some have limits, but I'm not sure which would be more convenient for our situation. We both bank with different institutions, if that matters.

Venmo is generally preferred for recurring payments and splitting bills due to its social features and widely recognized interface. However, both Cash App and Venmo charge fees for credit card transactions; typically around 3%. For fee avoidance, linking a bank account or debit card is the way to go.

Venmo is generally preferred for splitting bills due to its social features and ease of use, but Cash App's instant transfers to your bank account can be a plus. For larger amounts, consider any transaction limits and potential fees; both are relatively secure, but enabling two-factor authentication is recommended.

Venmo's purchase protection is practically non-existent for transactions with people you know, while Cash App is designed primarily for exactly that. For Marketplace sales, strongly consider a dedicated payment processor like Square or PayPal Goods & Services to get actual protection, even if it costs slightly more. Otherwise, you're trusting the buyer completely.
