Texas vs Arizona – which is better?

I'm trying to figure out where to relocate for a job. My company has offices in both Austin, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona. Cost of living is a big factor for me, but so is access to outdoor activities. I enjoy hiking and mountain biking, but also want a decent nightlife. I'm single, in my late 20s, and work in tech. Which city offers the best balance, considering factors like state income tax, housing costs, and the general vibe?

Arizona's property taxes are generally lower, but that can depend heavily on the specific county and school district. Texas has no state income tax, which is a big plus. However, property taxes are usually higher to compensate. For schools, both states have good and bad districts; research specific districts based on your kids' needs. Cost of living is also extremely variable depending on the city; Phoenix and Austin are both pricey compared to smaller towns.

Arizona's housing market is currently less competitive than Austin's. The lack of state income tax in Texas is appealing, but property taxes are higher. If you prioritize hiking and don't mind a dryer heat, Phoenix might be a better fit. Austin's nightlife is superior, but you'll pay more for housing.
