Is iPhone 16e good alternative to iPhone 17?
I'm stuck deciding whether the lower price of the 16e justifies its compromises compared to splurging on the 17. My main concerns are camera quality in low light and battery life for all-day use. Are the improvements in the 17 substantial enough to warrant the extra cost, or does the 16e hold its own for most everyday tasks? I plan to use it for at least 3 years.

The 16e will likely have a slightly less advanced camera system. Expect a single or dual-lens setup compared to the 17's potential triple-lens. Processing power for computational photography (like night mode) could also be a step behind. If camera quality is paramount, waiting for reviews comparing the two is crucial. Consider refurbished iPhone 15 Pro models as well, often at a similar price point to new 'budget' models.

The 17 will almost certainly have a better processor and camera system. Whether those upgrades are worth the extra cost depends on your budget and how often you upgrade. If you typically keep your phones for 4+ years, springing for the 17 might be the better long-term investment. If you upgrade every 2-3 years, the 16e will likely be sufficient, especially if battery life is a priority, as the 'e' models often prioritize efficiency.
