Is $70k enough in Dallas?

Considering a job offer in Dallas, but the salary is $70k. I'm single, no kids, and pretty frugal. My main concern is being able to afford a decent apartment in a safe area and still have some money left over for fun and savings. Is that realistic, or am I going to be living paycheck to paycheck?

You can definitely make $70k work in Dallas, especially if you're flexible on location. Look at areas like Richardson, Plano, or even some parts of Irving. These suburbs offer more affordable apartments with green spaces, and the commute to downtown is manageable. Your biggest expense will be rent, so shop around and consider smaller units or older buildings. Cooking at home will also help you save. Factor in pet care costs, utilities, and transportation, and you should still have some disposable income.

Seventy thousand in Dallas is doable but depends heavily on your definition of 'decent' and 'safe'. Rent in desirable neighborhoods like Uptown, Knox-Henderson, or even parts of Oak Lawn will eat up a significant chunk of that. You might need to consider areas further out, like some parts of North Dallas or even suburbs like Richardson or Plano, to find something more affordable. Factor in utilities, transportation (car vs. public transit), and your desired lifestyle. Create a detailed budget to see where your money goes; you can likely find a comfortable balance, but it might require some compromises.
