Is $60k a good salary in Texas?

I'm weighing a job offer in San Antonio. The salary is $60,000. I'm single, no kids, and pretty frugal. Is that enough to live comfortably, maybe save a bit, and still enjoy the city?

It really depends on your definition of 'comfortable' and 'enjoy the city.' $60k in San Antonio can be decent, especially if you're frugal. Housing is relatively affordable compared to other major Texas cities, but it's been increasing. You can find apartments or small houses for rent within a reasonable budget. Transportation costs are also relatively low if you don't mind driving. However, if you're expecting to live in a luxury apartment downtown and eat out every night, $60k might be tight. Create a realistic budget based on your lifestyle.

A $60k salary in Austin after taxes is roughly $45k take-home, or $3750 per month. After your car and student loan payments ($750 total), you're left with $3000. Rent can easily eat up $1500-$2000 depending on the location and apartment size. If you want to dine out frequently, you'll likely need to budget carefully or find a roommate to reduce housing costs. It is doable, but not luxurious.
