Is $120k enough in San Diego?

I'm considering a move to San Diego for a job opportunity, but I'm unsure if $120,000 is a realistic salary to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. I'm single, no kids, and prioritize living in a walkable neighborhood with good restaurants and access to outdoor activities. I don't need a huge place, but I'd like a one-bedroom apartment in a safe area. I'm also hoping to save a bit each month and travel occasionally. Is this doable, or am I underestimating the cost of living?

That salary in San Diego is workable, but 'comfortable' is subjective. Expect a significant chunk of your income to go towards rent, probably in the range of $2500-$3500/month for a decent one-bedroom in a desirable neighborhood. Factor in California's high state income tax. You'll need to budget carefully for groceries, transportation, and entertainment to still save and travel.

That income is doable, but you'll need to be strategic. Rent in desirable areas can easily eat up a large chunk of your budget. Consider looking at neighborhoods further from the beach or downtown. Public transportation is an option, but a car is almost a necessity for getting around. Factor in childcare costs when planning for a child; those expenses can be significant in San Diego.
