Dyson V15 vs Shark Stratos, which is better?

I have mostly hardwood floors with a couple of area rugs. Kids and a shedding golden retriever mean I'm vacuuming daily. Cordless is a must, but run time and suction are my main concerns. Is the Dyson V15 Detect really worth the premium over the Shark Stratos, or is Shark good enough for my needs?

For your specific needs (hardwood, rugs, pets, daily use), the Dyson's superior filtration and slightly stronger suction on carpets might be worth it. However, the Shark Stratos has excellent self-cleaning brushroll technology, which is a huge plus for pet hair, and its DuoClean system works great on both hard floors and carpets. Consider the cost of replacement filters for the Dyson; that adds up. The Shark is likely the better value, especially if you find it on sale.

The Dyson V15 generally has stronger suction, which is noticeable on carpets. Shark's Stratos excels at preventing hair wrap, which is a huge time-saver if you have long hair or pets. The laser on the Dyson is useful for seeing dust on hard floors, but not essential. Battery life is comparable, but depends on the power mode used. If pet hair is your primary concern, the Shark Stratos is the better practical choice, especially considering the price difference.

The Dyson V15's laser is more of a gimmick than a necessity, but its suction power is undeniably superior for pet hair. However, the Shark Stratos has excellent self-cleaning brush rolls, which minimize hair tangles, a common issue with Dysons. For mixed flooring and edge cleaning, the Stratos is a better all-around choice and saves you money. If pet hair is the absolute priority and budget isn't a concern, the V15 wins, otherwise go with the Shark.
