Can you live comfortably on $80k in Denver?

My wife and I are considering a job offer in Denver, but we're unsure if $80,000 is enough for a comfortable lifestyle. We don't need a lavish lifestyle, but we'd like to buy a modest house eventually and enjoy some of the outdoor activities. We have no kids and no debt besides student loans totaling $300/month. What kind of compromises should we expect?

Eighty grand in Denver requires realistic expectations; it is doable but requires diligence. Look at neighborhoods like Uptown, Cap Hill or even some areas along the light rail lines further south. You can probably find a decent one-bedroom in the $1800-$2200 range. Factor in pet fees, which can add another $50-$100 per month. Transportation costs will be minimal if you're truly car-free. Food and entertainment are where costs can easily balloon, so budget carefully. Travel will require dedicated saving.

Housing will be your biggest expense. Look at neighborhoods further from downtown to find something affordable. Groceries are fairly reasonable, but eating out can be pricey. Factor in transportation costs, especially if you're not living near public transit. With careful budgeting, $80k is doable, but don't expect to save a ton initially.
